First Aid and Prevention Tips for Spider Bites

Spiders naturally carry venom inside their bodies that they use to stun their prey or defend themselves from predators. But as dangerous as they may sound, the fact is, there are only a very few spiders that can actually pose a threat to humans. Some spiders that do have venom do not have the sufficient amount to cause damage to tissues while some simply do not have the sufficient mouth parts to bite and wound our skin. But still, it would be very helpful for us to know about a few first aid procedures that should be done after getting a spider bite. Just keep on reading and learn what you can!

In an onset of a spider bite, the very first thing that you need to know is the kind of spider that bit you. As mentioned before, there are some spiders that may not cause any harm at all while some may be deadly and can give fatal bite in just a matter of hours. We are no spider experts, yes, so if you fail to kill or capture the spider, the least you can do is remember its physical features so that you can have it identified for later use.

All spider bites produce similar primary symptoms which are usually pain and redness. But ordinary and non fatal spider bites will only last for a few hours and will eventually go away. Others may produce skin irritations which can easily be treated with ordinary anti biotic. Dangerous bites on the other hand can produce worsening symptoms: increased swelling, prolonged pain and redness. If this happens, then it is recommended that you seek medical help immediately. While on the way to the medical clinic or to the hospital, you can apply cold compress to the bitten area to reduce the pain and the swelling.

The venom released during a spider bite may differ from one kind of spider to another and the anti-venom administered for every case is also different. This is where your description of the animal is needed. Medical professionals need to determine what species of spider bit you so that they can give you the appropriate anti venom for treatment.

So keep all of these bits of information in mind to stay away from possible spider bites and of course, will let you know what to do whenever you find yourself or your companion bit by a spider.
